Why Holafly feels simpler than a gigabyte-based store
Holafly’s prepaid interface usually asks for a destination and the number of travel days. This reduces the mental work of estimating whether 5GB or 10GB is enough. The purchase decision instead becomes: does the destination page permit enough hotspot use, what happens after heavy usage, and does the validity begin only after arrival?
The company also operates Holafly Plans, a recurring product that is different from a prepaid eSIM by days. A useful review must keep those products separate. Features advertised for the subscription—such as incoming SMS and an optional number—should not be assumed to exist on a one-time destination purchase.
Plan models at a glance
Plan models at a glance table 1
| Product | Coverage | Data model | Calls / SMS | Important boundary |
| Prepaid by days | One destination or region | Unlimited-labeled on many routes | Data-only | Hotspot may have destination limits |
| Regional prepaid | Named country group | Duration-based | Data-only | Verify every country |
| Holafly Plans | 170+ destinations | Recurring allowance | Incoming SMS feature; no traditional calls/outgoing SMS | Subscription product |
| Always On benefit | Eligible countries | 1GB monthly benefit on eligible products | Data-only | Keep eSIM installed |
| Refund eligibility | Holafly website/app purchase | Unused and unactivated | Not a plan allowance | Request within published window |
Unlimited data: useful, but not a blank check
An unlimited label removes a fixed total-data ceiling, but network management and product-level fair-use rules can still affect speed. Heavy users should open the destination page and inspect any high-speed threshold, throttling language and tethering allowance before purchase.
This distinction matters most for laptop work. A phone can feel adequately connected for maps, messages and browsing while a restricted hotspot allowance makes the same plan unsuitable for multi-hour video calls or large cloud backups.
Calls, SMS and the Holafly Plans number
Standard prepaid travel eSIMs are generally data-only. They do not provide a local phone number for ordinary calls or SMS, so users normally keep their primary SIM for authentication messages and use data-based apps for communication.
Holafly Plans has a separate phone-number feature. The published terms describe numbers from the United States, United Kingdom or Canada and support receiving SMS through the app, WhatsApp or email. Voice calls and outgoing SMS are not supported. The feature should therefore be treated as an incoming-message tool, not as a full replacement mobile line.
Installation, Always On and profile management
Prepaid plans generally activate when the eSIM reaches a supported network. Installing before departure is sensible, but users should avoid deleting the profile during troubleshooting. Some current Holafly products include an Always On benefit that depends on retaining the installed eSIM.
The subscription can be managed from the app and can remain active until the end of the paid cycle after cancellation. Changing product type may require cancelling and purchasing another plan rather than converting the existing plan in place.
Refund policy and realistic expectations
Holafly publishes a comparatively long refund-request window: up to six months for eligible unused purchases made through Holafly. Full refunds generally require that the eSIM has not been activated. Incompatibility, device lock and network problems have separate evidence requirements.
For activated or partly used service, the outcome can be partial and case-specific. Connection issues should be reported during the trip, not after returning home, because support needs a chance to troubleshoot the network and settings.
