How Airalo’s catalog actually works
Airalo does not sell one universal travel plan. Its store contains country packages, multi-country regional packages and global products. That distinction matters because the same brand can offer a basic data-only package in one market and a data, voice and text product in another. A review that says “Airalo includes calls” or “Airalo never includes calls” is incomplete; the correct answer is visible in the selected package’s Plan Type and Additional Information.
The broad catalog is useful when an itinerary is unusual. A single-country traveler can compare a local eSIM against a regional package, while a multi-stop traveler can check whether a regional or global plan covers every border crossing. The risk is choosing by the destination name alone. The checkout page must also match the validity period, supported networks, activation trigger and whether the eSIM is rechargeable.

Plan types and what they mean
Local packages are normally the first place to look for a single-country trip. Regional packages trade some country-level specificity for broader coverage. Global packages are designed for multi-region travel; Discover+ products may include a phone number and voice/text allowances, while many other packages remain data-only.
Airalo’s unlimited-labeled plans are subject to a fair-use policy. The published default is 3GB of high-speed data per 24-hour period, followed by speed reduction to 1 Mbps for the rest of that period, unless the package displays a different threshold. This is adequate for messaging, maps and light browsing after the threshold, but it is not equivalent to unrestricted full-speed streaming.
Calls, SMS and phone-number expectations
Most Airalo packages are data-only. Internet calling through WhatsApp, FaceTime, Signal or similar apps is usually the practical communication method. Selected products are explicitly labeled Data, Voice & Text and can include a number, minutes and SMS. Local voice/text packages may restrict traditional communication to the covered country, while Discover+ has its own dialing and number rules.
Before paying, open the package details and confirm three separate fields: Plan Type, phone-number country code and the number of included minutes/SMS. Keeping a home SIM enabled for banking messages can generate roaming charges, so the home carrier’s incoming-call and SMS policy also needs to be checked.
Installation, activation and top-ups
Airalo generally encourages installation while stable Wi-Fi is available. Many packages start when the eSIM first connects to a supported destination network, but some start on installation. The Activation Policy is therefore more important than the generic installation instructions. Installing an installation-triggered package too early can waste validity.
Recharge is not universal. A Top up button appears only for rechargeable eSIMs; a carrier change or a non-rechargeable profile can require buying a new eSIM. If an eligible top-up does not activate automatically, Airalo recommends refreshing the connection with airplane mode and a device restart.
Refunds and support boundaries
Eligible orders can expose a Request Refund button in Package History or Order Details. Wrong-purchase and changed-plan cases may be refunded only in Airmoney, while installation failures or non-working service may allow Airmoney or the original payment method. Expired or fully used packages are not eligible, and bank processing can take longer than the instant in-app credit route.
The most important support habit is to contact Airalo before repeatedly installing, deleting or using the package. An uninstalled QR code may sometimes be shared with another compatible device, whereas an installed or used package has fewer recovery options.
