T-Mobile can work in Mexico when the customer’s active US plan includes Mexico roaming or an eligible international pass is added. The exact plan and line determine high-speed data, calls, SMS and hotspot. The existing T-Mobile number remains in use; this is roaming, not a separate Mexican line.
T-Mobile sells several plan families and international add-ons. Benefits that appear on one plan cannot be assumed on another, especially for legacy, prepaid, business or promotional lines. Sign in and confirm Mexico coverage for the exact line, the high-speed allowance, validity and what happens after the allowance is consumed.
The phone continues to use the existing T-Mobile number. That is useful for calls and authentication, but it also means voice and data charges remain tied to the home account.
Update iOS or Android and carrier settings before departure. On arrival, keep the T-Mobile line enabled, turn on Data Roaming for that line and try automatic network selection first. Airplane mode, a restart and manual network selection are reasonable next steps if registration fails.
